Robert E. Scott, 86, of St. Thomas, PA, passed away Sunday afternoon, December 14, 2014 at Falling Spring Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, where he had been a guest for the past three weeks. Born October 12, 1928 in St. Thomas, he was a son of Henry Raymond and Dorthea Kriner Scott. Mr. Scott served with the US Navy during the Korean War. He owned and operated R.E. Scott Co, Inc. for many years, retiring in 2001. He was a member and served twice as Worshipful Master of General James Chambers Lodge #801 F&AM, and held membership in Tall Cedars of Lebanon Valley Forest #145, the Shrine Club, Detrich-Brechbill Post 612 American Legion, and the St. Thomas Ruritan. He was an active promoter of renewable energy and in 1978 constructed the first home in the area to be heated with 100 percent solar energy. He enjoyed passing his skills and talents on to others and he and the late Byron Ashburn started a Renewable Energy Club at James Buchanan High School. In his younger years he was an avid hunter. A former St. Thomas Township Supervisor, Mr. Scott was instrumental in the movement to construct a decentralized sewer system that would be affordable to all of the township’s residents.
Mr. Scott is survived by his wife of 62 years, Isabelle J. Boyer Scott, whom he married March 16, 1952; his daughter, Dorothy Scott Small of Christiansburg, VA; two great-grandchildren, Jacquelyn and Clinton Small; and a brother, Donald Scott and wife Beverly of St. Thomas. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Charlotte Clopper.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 AM Saturday, December 20, 2014 in the Chapel of Thomas L. Geisel Funeral Home and Cremation Center, 333 Falling Spring Road, Chambersburg, PA with Chaplain John Winckler and Chaplain Casey Hurst officiating. Interment with military honors by members of the Charles Nitterhouse Post 1599 VFW Honor Guard will follow at Norland Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 7:00-9:00 PM Friday at the funeral home where members of the General James Chambers Lodge #801 F&AM will conduct a Masonic service at 8:00 PM.
