Robert Shadle

Robert O. Shadle, 87, of Chambersburg, PA, passed away Sunday morning, October 19, 2014, at ManorCare Health Services. Born August 15, 1927 in Greenvillage, he was a son of the late Orrin B. and Carrie E. Holtry Shadle. A US Army Air Corps veteran, Mr. Shadle retired in 1989 as Superintendent of Buildings and Grounds from the Chambersburg Area School District. Early in his life, he and his father owned and operated the former Orrin Shadle Sawmill in Greenvillage. He was a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church and Hume-McNeil-Byers AMVETS Post 224. He enjoyed woodworking, boating, and fishing. His wife, Gladys Pearl Reese Shadle, whom he married July 10, 1953, preceded him in death on September 7, 2014.

He is survived by his daughter, Cathy Shadle (Brad Slinkard) of Chambersburg; his son, Jeffrey Shadle of Rock Hill Furnace; his grandson, Josh Shadle (Heidi) of Chambersburg; three great-grandchildren, Riley, Bryce, and Trey Shadle, all of Chambersburg; and several nephews. In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by a brother, Harry Shadle; and three sisters, Kathleen Shadle, Annabell Myers, and Jane Shadle.

A graveside service will be held at 11:00 AM Thursday, October 23, 2014 at Parklawns Memorial Gardens with Pastor Ruth Smith officiating. Military honors will be conducted by members of the Charles Nitterhouse Post 1599 VFW Honor Guard.
