Robert F. Shindle, 93, of Chambersburg, PA, passed away on Tuesday, March 8, 2016 at the Chambersburg Hospital. Born February 27, 1923 in Williamson, he was a son of the late Motte and Katherine Brumbaugh Shindle.
Robert was a 1941 graduate of Waynesboro High School. A World War II veteran, he served honorably in the U.S. Army Air Corps. Robert was employed as an accountant for what is currently West Penn Power until his retirement in 1988. He was a member of First Lutheran Church in Chambersburg where he served in numerous leadership capacities, and the National Society, Sons of the American Revolution. A sports fan, Robert enjoyed watching Penn State, the Philadelphia Eagles, and the Oakland Athletics. He and his wife also enjoyed traveling the world and antiquing. His priorities in life were God and his family.
Robert is survived by his wife of 66 years, Grace Schlossnagel Shindle, whom he married on July 16, 1949; his daughter, Katherine Barnard and husband Brooks of Flower Mound, TX; his grandson, Benjamin Barnard of Flower Mound, TX; and two sisters, June and Phyllis Shindle, both of Waynesboro, PA.
A Celebration of Life Worship to honor Robert will be held at 11:00 AM on Friday, March 11, 2016 at First Lutheran Church, 43 West Washington St. Chambersburg, PA 17201. Rev. Jane Nicholson will officiate. A reception visitation will follow the service at the church. A committal service will be held on Friday at 2:30 PM in Green Hill Cemetery, 953 South Potomac St. Waynesboro, PA 17225. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to First Lutheran Church, Chambersburg at the above address.
