Robert E. “Bob” Sprenger, age 87, of Chambersburg, PA, passed away on Thursday, May 6, 2021, at Laurel Lakes Nursing Home. Born October 16, 1933, in Donnellson, IA, he was the son of the late Henry W. and Hilda B. Galle Sprenger.
A 1951 graduate of Ft. Madison High School in Ft. Madison, IA, Bob went on to serve as a US Marine, serving honorably in Korea during the Korean Conflict. He went on to work as a Machinist at Chambersburg Engineering for 40 years, retiring in 1999. Bob was a member of the Marine Corps League, American Legion, and VFW all in Chambersburg. He was a devout family man, enjoying time with his family, woodworking, bird watching, and traveling.
Surviving is his wife of 66 years, Hazel “Sue” Mitchell Sprenger, whom he married on August 28, 1954, two children, Karen C. Besore (Crist) of Newburg, PA and Matthew T. Sprenger (Cathy) of Shippensburg, PA; six grandchildren, Chad Stouffer (Krista), Craig Stouffer (Kristen Olsen), David Sprenger, Christopher Besore (Shannon), Tyler Sprenger (Katy Williams), and Lauren Engel (Darren); five great-grandchildren; and three siblings, Dorothy Sprenger, Nancy Stuekerjuergen, and Isla Stuetelberg. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by seven siblings.
Services and interment will be private. Arrangements are entrusted to the Thomas L. Geisel Funeral Home and Cremation Center, Chambersburg, PA. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions in his name to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 262 Danny Thomas Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
