Mr. Robert N. “Bob” Tarner, 94, of Chambersburg, PA passed away the morning of Saturday, January 16, 2021 in ManorCare Health Services Chambersburg. Born May 26, 1926 in Fort Loudon, PA he was the son of the late Wesley and Sarah (Cordell) Tarner.
He was a graduate of Chambersburg High School. Mr. Tarner served in the United States Army during World War II until his honorable discharge. He was employed by TB Woods as a shipping and receiving supervisor retiring after 40 years with the company.
Mr. Tarner was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church and the Charles Nitterhouse VFW Post 1599 both in Chambersburg. In his younger years he was a baseball coach for Youth League, Little League and PONY League.
He is survived by his wife of 71 years, Peggy (Turner) Tarner who he married March 26, 1949 in Hagerstown, MD; a son Russell W. “Rusty” Tarner of Chambersburg; six grandchildren, Christina Kilgore (Shane Reed), Jennifer Geesaman (David), Jessica Lanier (Ben), Nicole McCleary (Matt), Noreen Tarner (Troy Lurman), and Joseph Tarner (Kathryn); eleven great-grandchildren, Brianna, Brandon, Jacob, Kylee, Shaun, Kaleb, Ashton, Brycen, Luke, Michaela and Sofia; and a number of nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents he is preceded in death by two children, Cheryl L. Wietry and Robert N. Tarner, II; three sisters and two brothers.
Services will be private at the convenience of the family. Arrangements are by the Thomas L. Geisel Funeral Home and Cremation Center, Chambersburg, PA.
