Robert E. Vanderau, age 79, of 2193 New Franklin Road, Chambersburg, PA, died on March 13, 2011 while vacationing in Negril, Jamaica. He was born on March 19, 1931, to the late Howard A. and Mary Yeager Vanderau.
He is survived by his wife Sheila S. Vanderau, they were married on July 28, 1956 in Chambersburg PA by Rev. Eilus F. Haldeman. He is also survived by children: Vicki L. Bennett (Darrel) of Biglerville PA and Bradley E. (Kathy) Vanderau of Honolulu, HI; grandchildren: Megan (Wade) Insley of Washington DC, Brandon (Deborah) Stouffer of Chambersburg PA, Elizabeth and Claire Vanderau of Honolulu HI. Surviving brothers are William (Mink) Vanderau, Lloyd (Darlene) Vanderau and sister E. Joan (Samuel) Keller.
Bob was a member of the US Army during the Korean Conflict serving as a sergeant in the Army Security Agency. Bob worked at Letterkenny Army Depot for over 30 years.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Solomon's United Church of Christ in Chambersburg PA.
A celebration of Robert’s life will be held at 11:00 AM Saturday, April 2, 2011 at Solomon’s United Church of Christ, 1594 Swamp Fox Road, Chambersburg, PA. Rev. Peter Emig will officiate. Friends will be received from 10-11:00 AM. Interment with military honors by members of the Charles Nitterhouse Post 1599 VFW Honor Guard will follow in New Guilford Brethren In Christ Cemetery.
