Robert W. West, Sr., age 70, of Chambersburg, PA, passed away on Wednesday, April 4, 2012 at his home. Born August 8, 1941 in Chambersburg, PA, he was the son of the late John and Dorothy Schnable West. .
Bob was a 1959 graduate of the Chambersburg Area Senior High School and a U.S. Navy veteran, during the Vietnam Conflict; serving from 1964-1967. He served aboard the U.S.S. Dahlgren and did tours in Spain, Philippines, and Vietnam. He had been employed at T.B.Woods, Chambersburg Engineering Co., and Mack Truck; in addition he was the owner and operator of Third Base Tavern in Williamsport, MD; where he recently retired after 24 years. Bob was an avid model railroad enthusiast and he also enjoyed hunting, fishing, and most of all traveling.
Surviving is his wife, Margaret “Peggy” West; a son, Robert West, Jr. of Clemmons, NC; three grandchildren, Amanda West of Chambersburg, Tyler West of Cincinnati, OH, and Chelsey West of Huntersville, NC; two great-grandchildren, Gabriella Allen of Chambersburg and Madden Andrews of Huntersville, NC; and one sister, Donna R. West of San Jose, CA. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a step-daughter, Melinda J. Bean.
A Memorial Service will be held in the Chapel of Thomas L. Geisel Funeral Home and Cremation Center, 333 Falling Spring Rd., Chambersburg, PA on Tuesday, April 10, 2012 at 2:30 PM; where Rev. Paul B. Baker will officiate. The service will conclude at the funeral home with military honors being provided by members of the Charles Nitterhouse VFW Post 1599 Honor Guard. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service in the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in his name to Lutheran Home Care and Hospice, 2700 Luther Dr., Chambersburg, PA 17202.
