Robert B. “York” Yourkavitch, 88, of Chambersburg, passed away on Sunday, September 19, 2021 at the Chambersburg Hospital. Born June 14, 1933 in Reading, PA, he was the son of the late John Paul Yourkavitch and Freida Brookens Herr.
York was a 1951 graduate of the former Chambersburg High School. A US Marine Corps veteran, York served honorably during the Korean War and also served two tours in Vietnam. He later served as a drill instructor at Camp Lejeune, NC. He was employed on the Railroad at Letterkenny Army Depot until his retirement. York was a life member of the VFW Post 1599, The Marine Corps League, the American Legion Post 46 and the Chambersburg Club, all in Chambersburg. He loved golfing, watching golf on television and in his earlier years enjoyed horse racing.
He is survived by two children, Robin Ott of Chambersburg, and Terri Scanlon (Marty) of Summerville, SC; three grandchildren, Angela Snider (John) of Chambersburg, Denny Coldsmith of Chambersburg, and Andrea Randall (Chuck) of Summerville, SC; two step-grandchildren, Phil Scanlon of West Chester, PA and Shelby Scanlon of Glen Burnie, MD; nine great grandchildren; seven great-great grandchildren and one brother, Ronnie Yourkavitch. York was preceded in death by his wife, Donna Yourkavitch; great grandson, Dalton Mowers; and his sister, Nancy Pheil.
A memorial service will be held at 11:00 AM on Wednesday, September 29, 2021 in the Chapel of Thomas L. Geisel Funeral Home and Cremation Center, 333 Falling Spring Road, Chambersburg, PA 17202. Rev. Murray B. Stevens will officiate. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. Military honors will be provided by the VFW Post 1599 Honor Guard. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to VFW Post 1599, American Legion Post 46 or the Landis-McCleaf Detachment, Marine Corps League.
