Robert L. Zeis, 100, passed away Thursday, September 18, 2014 at Providence Place. Born on April 1, 1914, in Fannettsburg, PA, he was the son of the late Stephen G. and Mary H. Cowan Zeis. His loving wife, Bebe Spahr Zeis, preceded him in death on December 5, 1992. A U.S. Navy veteran, Bob honorably served his country during World War II. After his military service Bob spent his professional career as Vice-President of Valley Bank.
Very active throughout his life, Bob was a member of the Chambersburg Chamber of Commerce, Burt J. Asper Post 46 American Legion, Chambersburg Noontime Lions Club,BPOE 600 and Chambersburg Club He also volunteered for organizations such as American Heart Association, American Cancer Society, American Red Cross, March of Dimes, Exchange Club and Special Olympics. Bob was also the longest tenured member at Central Presbyterian Church.
Bob is survived by 2 daughters, Betsy Jane Frey and husband Merle and Billy Jean Morningstar, all of Chambersburg; three grandchildren, Bobbi J. Washabaugh, Neil Grimes and Marty Rhodes; 5 great grandchildren and 2 great-great grandchildren. Aside from his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by a brother, John Zeis; a sister, Betty Walker; and a grandson Jason Estep.
Funeral Services will be held on Tuesday, September 23, 2014 at 11:30AM in the chapel of Thomas L. Geisel Funeral Home and Cremation Center, 333 Falling Spring Road, Chambersburg, PA. Rev. Scott Bowerman and Rev. Dr. William Harter will officiate. Interment, with military honors conducted by Charles Nitterhouse Post 1599 VFW, will follow in Norland Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Monday, September 22, 2014 from 6:00 – 8:00 PM and one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.
