Robert G. Zullinger, 83, of Chambersburg, PA, passed away Friday morning, January 15, 2016 at his home. Born September 4, 1932 in Chambersburg, he was a son of the late Paul K. and Eva Mae Hassler Zullinger. A 1950 graduate of the Chambersburg High School, Bob went on to graduate from Rutger University’s Graduate School of Banking in 1965. He was also a graduate of the Pennsylvania School of Banking at Bucknell University and attended and instructed at the American Institute of Banking. He joined F&M Trust as a teller in the summer of 1950 and became bank president in 1981. Bob retired from the bank in 1996 as president and CEO, and was named chairman of Franklin Financial in 2000, retiring in 2002. He served as president of the Franklin-Fulton Banker’s Association, Greater Chambersburg Chamber of Commerce, and Chamber Center, Inc. He served on the board of directors of the Chambersburg Area Development Corporation, Franklin County Foundation, Letterkenny Industrial Development Authority, and Letterkenny Reuse Committee. He also served as chairman of the Chambersburg United Way Campaign and the Chamber’s Blue Ribbon Committee. He was past president of Chamber’s Fort Chapter AUSA; past member of the Federal Reserve Bank of Philadelphia’s Community Banker Advisory Committee; past board member of the Pennsylvania Bankers Association’s Banker’s Political Action Committee; past member of the American Banker’s Association’s Legislative Committee; and Past member of the Pennsylvania Banker’s Governing Council. He was a member of the Chambersburg Area Development Corporation’s Board of Directors and finance committee; past director of the Greater Harrisburg Foundation, and the Pennsylvania Base Development Committee (formerly known as the BRAC Committee). He was instrumental in the redevelopment of Letterkenny Army Depot and was involved politically, working to help many candidates get elected. He served as Chairman of Warren Elliott’s first campaign for County Commissioner. Bob received the Department of Army Outstanding Civilian Service Medal; was recognized by Public Opinion as one the twelve most influential persons in Franklin County; and was awarded the Greater Chambersburg Area Chamber of Commerce Business Person of the Year Award and the Wilson College Outstanding Service Award. He was named to the Chambersburg Chamber of Commerce Hall of Fame and was awarded the Zane A. Miller Award from the Franklin County Area Development Corporation in 1996. He coached the National Champion Chambersburg Raiders in the Almost Anything Goes TV series.



He is survived by his wife, Linda M. Peters Zullinger; his daughter, Louann Zullinger of Chambersburg; his son, Nelson R. Zullinger and wife Michelle of Palmyra; four grandchildren, Emily Ann Zullinger, Kevin Paul Zullinger, Mary Bredbenner, and Kammi Bredbenner; and his great-granddaughter, Madelyn Binkley. Bob is also survived by his sister-in-law, Jane McClelland and husband Jerry of Chambersburg; three nieces, Connie Zullinger Seacrest and husband Gary, Trena Oyler and husband Bill, and Beth Miller and husband John; a nephew, Kip Johnson, and wife Pam Kolson; two great-nieces, Meredith Seacrest and McKenzie Miller; and four great-nephews, Ryan Seacrest, Luke Oyler, Zach Oyler, and Garrett Miller. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother and sister-in-law, Merle E. and Dorothy McNew Zullinger; and his son-in-law, David Suffion.

A memorial service to celebrate Bob’s life will be held at 2:00 PM Monday, January 18, 2016 at First United Methodist Church, 225 South Second Street, Chambersburg, PA. Rev. Catherine Boileau will officiate. The family will receive friends immediately following the service. Private interment will be in Norland Cemetery.
