Rodney N. Cook, age 77, of Tampa, FL and formerly of Chambersburg, PA, passed away on Thursday, April 20, 2017, at St. John’s Hospital North in Lutz, FL. Born in Huntington, PA on December 10, 1939, he was the son of the late Clarence N. and Hattie M. Whitfield Cook.
Mr. Cook was a 1957 graduate of the Chambersburg Area Senior High School. He worked as a machinist for Mack Truck for 27 years, retiring in 1988. Mr. Cook was a member of the Knights of Columbus in Chambersburg. He enjoyed playing and coaching baseball and basketball. He had also coached softball and basketball. Mr. Cook was a basketball coach at Corpus Christi Catholic School in the late 1970’s. However, in more recent years, he enjoyed visiting Tampa Bay Downs and playing the ponies.
Surviving are his four children, Rhonda Stoner (husband Mark) of Orrstown, PA, Carmen Mitsuyasu – Gapero of Ewa Beach, HI, Angelina “Renee” Cook of Mechanicsville, MD, and Christopher Cook of Chambersburg, PA; two step-children, Clay and Denise; five grandchildren, Janel Fosnot, Matthew Stoner, Bo Mitsuyasu, Tai Mitsuyasu, and Logan Cook; three great – grandchildren, Riley, Grady, and Kenzie; a sister, Wanda Besecker of Fayetteville, PA, and his two furbabies, Bear and Cocoa. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, JoAnn Humphries Cook on August 10, 1984 and his second wife, Rita Cook on December 27, 2016.
Graveside services will be held on Thursday, April 27, 2017 at 11 AM at Parklawns Memorial Gardens, Chambersburg, PA, where Rev. Paul B. Baker will officiate. Arrangements are entrusted to the Thomas L. Geisel Funeral Home and Cremation Center, Chambersburg, PA. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in his name to the Better Days Animal League.
