Ron E. Cummings, 79, of Fayetteville, PA, passed away Friday, September 9, 2022 in the Chambersburg Hospital. Born October 18, 1942 in Coffeyville, KS, he was the son of the late Horace and Dorothy (Oxendine) Cummings.
He spent his childhood moving with his family to different bases including Germany, Holland, Florida, and Georgia until landing in Arlington, VA. Ron was a graduate of Washington Lee High School, Arlington. He later went on to attend George Washington University and American University. Ron was employed in sales throughout his career working for different appliance and furniture companies often times earning “Top Salesman” Awards. He was proud to have introduced and demonstrated one of the first microwaves in the 1970's. He retired in 2006 from the Room Store furniture store in Annandale, VA, and settled in Fayetteville, PA, in 2007. As a post-retirement job, Ron worked for Advantage Corporation as an event specialist in the Walmart in Waynesboro, PA and Chambersburg, PA.
Ron was a proud son of a veteran belonging to the American Legion Post 1976 in Annandale, AMVETS Post 224, Marine Corps, Vietnam Veterans Post 41, and the VFW Post 1599 all in Chambersburg as well as the Eagles Club in Waynesboro and the Moose Lodge in Palm Bay, FL. He was also proud of his Lumbee American Indian Heritage attending Pembroke Homecoming events for many years and meeting up with relatives. He was an avid Washington Redskins Football fan, NASCAR fan especially Jeff Gordon, and enjoyed traveling to Baltimore to watch Orioles baseball games. He loved his 1999 Mustang Cobra and hosting summer backyard and Christmas parties for family and friends, both in Pennsylvania and Northern Virginia. Ron also loved spending time with family, his wife’s extended family and his many friends in Pennsylvania. He enjoyed traveling to Florida and Virginia to visit his many friends that he made throughout his life.
He is survived by his wife, Sandra (Shank) Cummings; two aunts, Anne Cummings of Crownsville, MD and Mary Mashburn of Charlotte, NC; a daughter, Pamela Sankhar of Hawthorne, CA; granddaughter, Asia Sankhar of Hawthorne, CA; three sisters, Janice Cummings (David Nobert) of Rotunda Beach, FL, Joan Cummings of St. Augustine, FL and Pamela Bauman (Charles) of Sammamish, WA; one niece; one nephew; and one great-nephew; and a number of cousins.
A Celebration of Life will be held from 4:00 PM – 9:00 PM, Saturday, October 22, 2022 in the AMVETS Pavilion, 750 5th Ave., Chambersburg, PA 17201 where Ron’s favorite band the Nighthawks will perform. Arrangements are by the Thomas L. Geisel Funeral Home and Cremation Center, Chambersburg.
