Ronald Arnold

Ronald E. “Ron” Arnold, 74, of Chambersburg, passed away on Saturday, April 20, 2013 in his home. Born on October 27, 1938 in Dry Run, PA, he was the son of the late Lester “Slim” E. Arnold and Annie B. Guyer Arnold.
Ron attended Greenwood Hills Gospel Chapel, Fayetteville, PA. A U.S. Navy veteran, serving four years active duty and two years inactive duty, he received an honorable discharge in August of 1963. After his military service he began his government career starting at the Mechanicsburg Naval Supply Depot, then transferring to Letterkenny Army Depot, from which he retired with 35 ½ years of service. He then began his second career working for the Pennsylvania state government, retiring after 11 ½ years.
An outdoorsman, he enjoyed hunting and playing golf with family and friends. He was involved with the Shippensburg Little League for a number of years as a coach and an umpire and he umpired PIAA baseball and softball games at the high school and college levels.
He is survived by his beloved wife of 51 years, Janet L. McIntire Arnold, whom he married January 6, 1962; his loving children, Richard L. Arnold (wife Deborah Kitzmiller Arnold) of Newville, Daniel E. Arnold (wife Linda Radabaugh Arnold) of Shippensburg, Deborah K. Borzager (husband John) of Chambersburg, and Linda R. Kuffa (husband Brian) of Boiling Springs, PA; grandchildren, Ryan Borzager, Jenna Borzager, Bradley Arnold, Tyler Kuffa, Carter Kuffa, Shaina Arnold, and Nicki Motter; three great grandsons, and a number of aunts, uncles and cousins. Aside from his parents he was preceded in death by his siblings, Ruth Reever, James Arnold, and Sylvia Jean Boone.
Funeral services will be held at 1 PM on Wednesday, April 24, 2013 in the Chapel of Thomas L. Geisel Funeral Home and Cremation Center, 333 Falling Spring Rd., Chambersburg, PA, with Mr. William Merkle officiating. Interment will follow in Parklawns Memorial Gardens, where members of the Charles Nitterhouse VFW Post 1599 Honor Guard will conduct military graveside honors. The family will receive friends in the funeral home on from 6-8 PM on Tuesday and one hour prior to the service on Wednesday. Memorial contributions may be made to Lutheran Home Care and Hospice, 2700 Luther Drive, Chambersburg, PA 17202.
