Ronald John Bish, 80, longtime resident of the Hagerstown, Md., and Greencastle, Pa., area, received his ultimate healing when he went home to be with Jesus on Nov. 29, 2017.
His devotion to Christ, the church and his family was an inspiration for the many who knew him.
Born to the late John and Helen Bish on March 1, 1937, Ron grew up in the Wallingford, Conn., area where he remained until his early 30s. He then moved to the mid-Atlantic area and remained there, living in a number of states, with the brief exception of 11 years spent in Florida during his retirement years.
Ron, during his life time, was a mechanic, computer programmer and salesperson, but all those things paled in comparison to his faith and family.
On Valentine’s Day 1970, he married the love of his life, Carol Dexter Bish. During their 47 years of marriage, they welcomed three children into the world, Linda, Lisa and Jonathan.
From the beginning, he dedicated his children to God and encouraged them to seek Jesus with all of their heart, mind, soul and strength. He knew they would be his biggest legacy, and each of them today are faithfully serving Jesus and their respective churches.
Ron, for many years, taught adult Sunday school classes, led Life Groups and did one-on-one mentoring, helping people discover the richness of the Word of God and inspiring them to discover the same deep, personal intimacy with Jesus that he experienced. Those who heard him teach always left their time with him having gleaned a new insight into God that they had never known and a practical next step in how that information could transform them.
Ron is survived by his wife, Carol of Shippensburg, Pa.; his daughter, Linda Gayman and son-in-law, Brian Gayman, of Chambersburg, Pa.; daughter, Lisa Thurston and son-in-law, Pastor Gilbert Thurston III, of Harrisburg, Pa.; son, Jonathan Bish and daughter-in-law, Faith Bish, of Vacaville, Calif.; his three grandchildren, Jordan Gayman, Adam Gayman and Brooklyn Bish; brother, Bob Bish; and sister, Cathy Partyka.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
A memorial service will be held for Ron at 4 PM on Saturday, Dec. 2, at New Life Christian Ministries, 12031 Hopewell Road, Hagerstown, MD 21740. Pastor Ken Harris will preside over this celebration of life.
The family gratefully declines flowers; however, donations can be made in Ron’s memory to either www.JesusFilm.org or www.StJude.org.
