Ronald E. Kohli, 82, of Chambersburg, died on Tuesday, September 16, 2014 at Chambersburg Hospital after a lengthy illness. Born September 28, 1931 in Solsville, NY, he was a son of the late Ernest and Martha Kohli who died in 1963 and 1997 respectively.
He was a member of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Rome, NY and a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean War. Ron entered military service on November 12, 1948 in Rome, NY and served until 1950, then reenlisted at Fort Eustis, VA for a period of three years. While at Fort Eustis, he was recruited to participate in the movie, “Red Ball Express”, starring Howard Petrie as General Patton and the movie star Jeff Chandler.
Prior to his retirement in 1974, he worked at Griffiss Air Force Base, in Rome, NY, the Defense Supply Agency in Richmond, VA and as a systems analyst at the U.S. Army Major Items Data Agency at Letterkenny Army Depot with 27 years of government service.
Ron was a member of the Masonic order, Baron Steuben Lodge in Lee Center, NY, the NRA, the Detrich-Brechbill Post 612 American Legion in St. Thomas, PA, a former member of the Charles Nitterhouse VFW Post 1599 in Chambersburg, and an honorary member of Pennsylvania Sheriffs’ Association.
Surviving are his widow, Mrs. Cleta Rotz Kohli; one daughter, Roni E. Thompson (husband Everett) of Poland, NY, Douglas A. Kohli of Grantville, GA; four granddaughters; two great-granddaughters; one brother, Robert C. Kohli (wife Mary) of Deltona, FL; two sisters, Mildred Weismuller of Verona, NY and MaryAnne Turner of Nashville, TN; and a number of nieces and nephews.
Memorial services will be private and under the direction of Thomas L. Geisel Funeral Home, Chambersburg, PA. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Mt. Olivet United Brethren Church, 8204 Fort McCord Road, Chambersburg, PA 17202.
