Ronald Gene Martin, age 74, of Fayetteville, PA, passed away on Thursday, November 1, 2012 in the Chambersburg Hospital Emergency Room. Born June 21, 1938 in Chambersburg, PA, he was the son of the late Walter William and Edith Sites Martin.
A U.S. Air Force veteran, Ron served his country honorably, including a one year tour in Korea during the Korean Conflict. Ron worked as an Engineer for the Federal Government at both the Pentagon and Vitro Laboratories in Silver Spring, MD; where he retired in 1980. He was a member of the Paralyzed Veterans of America and the American Legion. Ron enjoyed coaching boys club football and basketball, playing golf and chess, and watching his beloved Washington Redskins.
Surviving is his loving wife of 52 years, Norma Brookens Martin, whom he married on September 24, 1960; a son, Kevin S. Martin of Fayetteville, PA; and a sister, Audrey Eutzy (husband Carl) of Silver Spring, MD. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three siblings, Bertha Hutchison, Mary Brill and William “Bill” Martin.
Funeral services will be held on Monday, November 5, 2012 at 1:00 PM in the Chapel of Thomas L. Geisel Funeral Home and Cremation Center, 333 Falling Spring Rd., Chambersburg, PA; where Minister Charles Hill will officiate. The family will receive friends on Sunday, November 4, 2012 in the funeral home from 6:00 until 8:00 PM and one hour prior to the service on Monday. Interment will follow the service in Mt. Pleasant Cemetery with military honors provided by members of the Charles Nitterhouse VFW Post 1599 Honor Guard. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in his name to the Chambersburg Church of Christ, 230 S. Third St., Chambersburg, PA 17201 or to the Multiple Sclerosis Society, 2040 Linglestown Rd., Ste. 104 Harrisburg, PA 17110.
