Ronald McClure, 78, of Fayetteville, PA passed away on March 30, 2017, at Pinnacle Health in Harrisburg, PA. He was the son of the late George W. McClure II and Thelma E. (Pogue) McClure.
A 1958 graduate of the Chambersburg Area Senior High School, Mr. McClure went on to serve honorably in the US Army. Mr. McClure worked at Mack truck for 33 years, retiring in 1993. He was also the owner and operator of the Conococheague Trade Company for 35 years. He was a member of many organizations; including the Pre 1840’s Rendezvous, WWII 82nd Airborne Reenactment Group, The Perry County Regulators SASS, the Fayetteville Explorers Post #134, the NRA, the Moose Lodge #842, the Mercersburg American Legion #0517, and the AmVets Post #224. An avid outdoorsman and history enthusiast, Ron spent his time participating in living history groups and speaking at schools and to Boy Scout groups. He enjoyed leather working, gunsmithing, antiquing, traveling, and taking cruises to various locations with his wife.
Surviving is his beloved wife of 23 years, Gwen Reysz McClure, whom he married on March 17, 1994, two children, Jeffrey McClure of Allenhurst, GA and Deborah A. Davis (husband Barry), of Hagerstown, MD; two step - children, Robert F. Detrow (wife Maura) of Westminster, MD and Kathleen M. Nadherry (husband Steven) of Arlington, VA; 9 grandchildren; 12 great – grandchildren; his brother, David E. McClure (wife Lark) of Fayetteville, PA; and several nieces and a nephew. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, George W. McClure III.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, April 5, 2017, at 1 PM in the Chapel of the Thomas L. Geisel Funeral Home and Cremation Center, 333 Falling Spring Rd., Chambersburg, PA where Rev. Alan Wilson will officiate. The family will receive friends Tuesday, April 4, 2017, from 6 - 8 PM and 1 hour prior to the service in the funeral home. Interment will be private. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in his name to the Boy Scouts of America, Conococheague District, 1 Baden Powell Lane, Mechanicsburg, PA 17050 or to your favorite Veterans organization.
