Ronald Overcash

Ronald K. Overcash, 81, of Chambersburg, PA, passed away Thursday afternoon, December 15, 2016 at his home surrounded by his family. Born December 13, 1935 in Chambersburg, he was a son of the late Donald K. and Elizabeth E. Summers Overcash. He served honorably in the US Navy and was employed as a Public Assistance Auditor for the State of Pennsylvania prior to his retirement. Mr. Overcash was a member of Mt. Pleasant United Brethren Church where he had served as President of his Sunday school class. He was a life member of the Charles Nitterhouse Post 1599 VFW in Chambersburg, a charter member of Harry Lackhove American Legion Post 517 in Mercersburg, and also held membership in the Loyal Order of Moose Lodge #842 in Chambersburg. He was a member and Past President of the Full Gospel Businessmen’s Association in Chambersburg and served for several years on the Democratic State Committee. An avid hunter and fisherman, he especially enjoyed hunting out west and was the Pennsylvania State Archery Champion in 1959. A licensed auctioneer, he enjoyed spending time auctioneering and also liked traveling to Ocean Isle Beach in North Carolina. His wife, Phyllis Shatzer Overcash, whom he married August 17, 1957, preceded him in death on July 5, 1992.

He is survived by three sons, Keith D. Overcash and wife Nina of Fayetteville, Dirk A. Overcash and wife Nancy of Chambersburg, and Darren M. Overcash and wife Lisa of Shippensburg; seven grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren; his brother, Theodore C. Overcash of Chambersburg; and his companion, Leona Gontz of Shippensburg. In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by his sister, Beverly Ann Cipolla.

Funeral services will be held at 11:30 AM Thursday, December 22, 2016 in the Chapel of Thomas L. Geisel Funeral Home and Cremation Center, 333 Falling Spring Road, Chambersburg, PA. Rev. Garry Culler and Rev. William Dick will officiate. Interment with military honors by members of the Charles Nitterhouse Post 1599 VFW Honor Guard will follow at Norland Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 7:00 – 9:00 PM Wednesday and from 10:30 – 11:30 AM Thursday at the funeral home.
