Ronald L. Perry, Sr., 77, of Chambersburg, PA, passed away Tuesday morning, November 29, 2016 at his home. Born November 26, 1939 in Chambersburg, he was a son of the late Lester Perry and Rhoda Baker Perry Sollenberger. He was a graduate of the Chambersburg Area Senior High School and was happily married to Mary Jane Thomas Perry, the girl next door, for 57 years. Mary preceded him in death on October 13, 2016. Ronald proudly served in the US Navy aboard the USS Forrestal, the world’s first super carrier. He retired after 32 years as a Computer Systems Analyst specializing in COBAL programming language at Letterkenny Army Depot. Following his retirement he was employed for a number of years by SAIC at Letterkenny. Ronald was a member of the former St. John’s Lutheran Church in Greenvillage. He was very sports oriented and instrumental in starting the Greenvillage Youth League in 1977. He loved being involved in football and baseball activities. He enjoyed daily crossword puzzles, playing golf, frequenting dinner theaters, and spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
He is survived by three children, Tammy J. Wiley and husband Jeffrey of Chambersburg, Ronald L. Perry, Jr. of Fayetteville, and John W. Perry and wife Susan of Chambersburg; five grandchildren, Wade Wiley, Trayer Wiley, Hannah Wiley Diehl, Mia Perry, and Chase Perry; three great-grandchildren, Hailey, Morgan, and Wesley Diehl. He is also survived by his sister, Delores Sollenberger Campbell of Chambersburg; and his brother, William Perry and wife Mary Belle of Chambersburg. In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Nelson Perry and Dale Sollenberger.
Funeral services will be held at 11:30 AM Monday, December 5, 2016 in the Chapel of Thomas L. Geisel Funeral Home and Cremation Center, 333 Falling Spring Road, Chambersburg, PA. Rev. Charles Naylor will officiate. Interment with military honors by members of the Charles Nitterhouse Post 1599 VFW Honor Guard will follow at Norland Cemetery. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service on Monday.
