Roy M. Horst

September 13, 1948 — August 24, 2024

Chambersburg

Roy M. Horst, 75, of Chambersburg, PA passed away Saturday, August 24, 2024 at the Mercy House of Chambersburg. Born September 13, 1948 in Chambersburg, he was the son of the late Enos E. and Janet L. (Swope) Horst. His life was a testament to his firm belief in Jesus Christ as his savior, even as he navigated the rough road of cancer these past few months. We know that he is now rejoicing in the presence of the Lord.

Roy's love of trucking had him traveling the country coast to coast for the last 55 years where he met many new people along the way. He worked hard, provided excellent service to his customers and always kept his yellow truck and other equipment in immaculate condition.

He treasured Tina, his wife of nearly 58 years, most of all. He also enjoyed spending time with family whether that was in Texas, Georgia, or here in the Chambersburg Area.

Roy was a member and regular attendee of the Mt. Pleasant United Brethren Church where he participated in the Koinonia Sunday School Class. He enjoyed the fellowship of the church congregation where you could expect to be greeted with a warm smile, firm handshake, and even a hug from Roy.

He loved to serve the Lord and took the opportunity to go on several short-term mission trips to the Appalachian area of West Virginia where he made unforgettable connections with the locals. Roy was dearly loved by neighbors, fellow truck drivers, and many others within his community.

Roy is survived by his wife Gail “Tina” (Zimmerman) Horst who he married, September 24, 1966; three children, Rita Passmore (Milton) of Fort Valley, GA, Jackie Fleming (Rick) of Shippensburg, and Troy Horst (Amanda) of Wolfe City, TX; eight grandchildren, Ashley Plummer (Drew), Britney Blount, Wesley Fleming (KateLynne), Leah Forrester (Josh), Alissa Halteman (John), Madelyn Horst, Hannah Horst, and Alicia Espinoza (Julian); seven great-grandchildren, Andrew, Anna, Ashlyn, Kimber, Paisely, Gracelynne, and Jeremiah; three siblings, Steve Horst (Ellen) of Waynesboro, Kaye Ricker (Duane) of Chambersburg, and Clay Horst of Fridens, PA; and a number of nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by a brother, Joseph Horst.

Services will be held 10:00 AM, Friday, August 30, 2024 in Mt. Pleasant Church, 2509 Black Gap Road, Chambersburg, PA 17202 with Pastor Jim Bolich and Pastor Garry Culler officiating. Burial will follow in Parklawns Memorial Gardens, Chambersburg, PA.
