Roy A. Sollenberger, 81, of St. Thomas, PA, passed away on Monday, March 18, 2024 at the Chambersburg Hospital. Born September 2, 1942 in Chambersburg, he was the son of the late Paul A. Sollenberger and Verda (Meyers) Sollenberger Hawbaker.
Roy’s first career was in Agriculture. He was a dairy farmer until 1986 when health issues prevented him from continuing to farm. He then transitioned into a career at Olympia Candy Kitchen where he worked as the Primary Candy Maker for 30 years. He then worked part-time at the Mercersburg Inn in maintenance as a handyman. Roy was an active member of Chambersburg Bible Church where he served as Deacon and Elder on the church board for almost 50 years. He was loved and well respected by his family, friends, co-workers and the community. Roy enjoyed woodworking, handyman projects, spending time with his family, and traveling across the country with his wife.
He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Carol L. Musselman Sollenberger, whom he married on August 22, 1965; four children, Loren Sollenberger (Michelle) of Mercersburg, Jean Chilcote (Dave) of Mercersburg, Matthew Sollenberger (Becky) of Pittsboro, NC, and Tanya Hirschy (Andrew) of Jeffersonville, IN; eleven grandchildren, Adam Chilcote (Courtney), Paige Seiger, Katarina Ramos (Brian), Hannah Meaux (Noah), Brenden Chilcote, and Nate, Aubrey, Olivia, Cora, Maddy and Penny Hirschy; one great grandchild, Ellis Ramos, and two more great grandchildren soon to be born.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 AM on Saturday, March 23, 2024, at the Chambersburg Bible Church, 810 Orchard Drive, Chambersburg, PA 17201. Rev. Steve Trostle and Rev. David Mummert will officiate. Interment will follow the service in Parklawns Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends on Friday evening from 6:00 – 8:00 PM at the Thomas L. Geisel Funeral Home, 333 Falling Spring Road, Chambersburg, PA, and one hour prior to the service on Saturday at the church.
