Royal Knapper

Royal E. Knapper, Sr., age 93, of Chambersburg, PA; passed away on Saturday, October 15, 2011 in the Chambersburg Hospital. Born July 30, 1918 in Chambersburg, he was the son of the late John Henry and Edna Christian Knapper.

Mr. Knapper worked for Sears and Roebuck Co. for 17 years, retiring in 1983 after 17 years of service, after retiring he went on to work at the Franklin County Courthouse tip staff. Mr. Knapper was a member and past Master of the Letort #18 Star Lodge, Carlisle, PA; where he had been Tyler for many years. In addition he was a member of the NAACP, Nimrod Consistory #9, Harrisburg PA, and the Chambersburg Community Improvement Association.

Mr. Knapper is survived by one son, Royal E. Knapper, Jr. of Chambersburg, PA; a step-daughter, Pamela C. Goines of Chambersburg; and granddaughter, Yevett R. Boatwright of Columbia, SC. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Naomi Frisby Knapper, whom he married on June 9, 1962.

Funeral services will be held on Friday, October 21, 2011 at 10 AM in the Chapel of Thomas L. Geisel Funeral Home and Cremation Center, 333 Falling Spring Rd., Chambersburg, PA; where Rev. Roger W. Wilmer, Jr. will officiate. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service in the funeral home. Interment will follow the service in Lebanon Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in his name to the American Cancer Society, 452 East King St., Chambersburg, PA 17201 or the St. James AME Church, Steward Board, 510 S. Main St., Chambersburg, PA.
