Ruby Byers

March 31, 1921 — January 9, 2017

Ruby Virginia Lesher Byers, 95, of Chambersburg, PA, passed away Monday evening, January 9, 2017 at Penn Hall Nursing Center. Born March 31, 1921 in St. Thomas, she was a daughter of the late Abram and Ivy Pearl Finafrock Lesher. She had worked alongside her late husband at their family business, the former Paul M. Byers, Inc. in Chambersburg. She was an active member, for more than sixty-five years, of First United Methodist Church in Chambersburg where she was a member of the Alda Bower Sunday school class; served as the hospitality chairperson and communion coordinator; and earlier in her life volunteered time with the children’s ministry and Vacation Bible School. She and her husband served at one time as counselors at Camp Penn. She was a former member and Treasurer of the Rose Society. A dedicated and loving wife, mother, and grandmother she enjoyed hosting family and friends in her home where everyone was welcome. Her husband, Paul M. Byers, whom she married April 4, 1939 in Chambersburg, preceded her in death on January 13, 2003.

She is survived by her daughters, Dianne B. Salter and husband Charles and Paula Hepfer and husband Samuel, all of Chambersburg; five grandchildren, Roderick Salter and wife Tammy, Ridgley Salter and wife Karen, Elizabeth Stahl and husband Craig, Eric Hepfer and wife Kristy, and Christopher Hepfer and wife Emily; and twelve great-grandchildren. She is also survived by three sisters, Ruth Miller, Thelma Keefer, and Theda Monn, all of Chambersburg. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a sister, Hazel Wise, and a brother, Robert Lesher.

Funeral services will be held at 10:00 AM Saturday, January 14, 2017 at First United Methodist Church. Interment will follow at Norland Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6:00-8:00 PM Friday at Thomas L. Geisel Funeral Home and Cremation Center, 333 Falling Spring Road, Chambersburg, PA, and from 9:00-10:00 AM Saturday at the church

Memorial contributions in her memory may be made to Cumberland Valley School of Music, 1015 Philadelphia Avenue, or to First United Methodist Church (noted for Hungry Hearts Ministry), 225 South Second Street, both in Chambersburg, PA 17201.
