Rue E. Berringer, 94, passed away Thursday, January 19, 2012 at Falling Spring Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, Chambersburg, PA. Born April 13, 1917 in Indiana County, she was a daughter of the late Max and Mary Scott Berringer. Rue graduated from Indiana High School and moved to Stamford, Connecticut and later to Washington, DC during WWII where she was employed at the Pentagon for many years, retiring from the office of the Joint Chiefs of Staff from which she received many commendations. Rue was a member of Trinity Episcopal Church in Chambersburg, an honorary member of the Chambersburg Area Council of Republican Women and was also nominated for membership in the National Geographic Society in 1970.
She is survived by a sister, Irene French of Fayetteville; a brother, Melvin J. Berringer of Reno, NV; a nephew, Geoffrey Scott Tillman of Alexandria, VA; three great nephews, Geoffrey Tillman Jr. and James Tillman of Dallas, TX, and Robert Tillman; as well as a great-niece, Donna. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a brother, Reuel Berringer; and nephews Donald and Leslie.
Graveside services will be held on Tuesday January 24, 2012 at 10:30AM at Parklawns Memorial Gardens, Chambersburg, with Rev. Paul B. Baker officiating. Arrangements have been entrusted to Thomas L. Geisel Funeral Home and Cremation Center, 333 Falling Spring Road, Chambersburg, PA 17202.
