Russell Ambrose

Russell B. Ambrose, Sr., 81, of 200 North Main Street and formerly of 1803 Leedy Drive in Chambersburg, passed away Tuesday, January 31, 2012 in the Chambersburg Hospital. Born May 7, 1930 in Sylvan, PA, he was a son of the late Remick and Nelia Keefer Ambrose. Russell was employed at the former Moore’s Lumber and Triangle Building Supply in Chambersburg. He was last employed at Lowe’s where he worked for twenty years. He and his wife also owned and operated the former Welsh Run Market for fourteen years. Russell enjoyed woodworking and for ten years he and his wife attended local craft shows where he sold his woodcrafts.

He is survived by his wife, Betty R. Hampton Ambrose, whom he married March 15, 1952; five children, Pamela Kipe and husband Ed of Welsh Run, Karen Faith and husband Mike of Mercersburg, Russell Ambrose, Jr. and wife Pamela of Thurmont, MD, Rodney Ambrose and wife Pamela of Boiling Springs, and Randy Ambrose and wife Chris of Greencastle; ten grandchildren; and sixteen great-grandchildren. He is also survived by a sister, Geraldine Bingaman of Williamson. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Alverta Pine of Upton; and a brother, Roy Ambrose of Nova.

Funeral services will be held at 11:30 AM Friday, February 3, 2012 in the Chapel of Thomas L. Geisel Funeral Home and Cremation Center, 333 Falling Spring Road, Chambersburg, PA. Rev. Peter Emig will officiate. Interment will follow at Parklawns Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service on Friday at the funeral home.
