Ruth A. Carson, 96, of Chambersburg, PA, passed away on Wednesday, August 3, 2022 at Menno Haven Rehabilitation Center. Born June 28, 1926 in Pleasantville, PA, she was a daughter of the late Harry D. and Elizabeth Beckley Barefoot. Her beloved husband, Raymond R. Carson, preceded her in death in 2011.
Ruth was employed as a computer programmer at Letterkenny Army Depot until her retirement. She was a member of St. Paul United Methodist Church in Chambersburg. Ruth was also a member of AARP, NARFE, and the American Legion Ladies Auxiliary. Ruth enjoyed knitting. She knitted over 10,000 baby hats and donated them to the Chambersburg Hospital. She also enjoyed growing roses, spending time with her family and travelling. She and her husband were fortunate to travel to many countries all across the world through his job with Heinz.
She is survived by her son, James R. Carson (wife Angela) of Chambersburg, three grandsons, David Gladfelter of Chambersburg, Scott Carson of FL, and Matthew McCulloh (wife Fawne) of Mercersburg; two great grandchildren, Owen Carson and Chase Carson; her brother, H. Fred Barefoot of Johnstown, PA; and numerous nieces and nephews. Aside from her parents and husband, Ruth was preceded in death by her grandson, Mark Carson; sister, Margaret Blackburn; and an infant sister, Lucille Barefoot.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM on Friday, August 12, 2022 in the chapel of Thomas L. Geisel Funeral Home and Cremation Center, 333 Falling Spring Road, Chambersburg, PA 17202. Rev. John Kratz will officiate. Interment will follow the service in Lincoln Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6:00 – 8:00 PM on Thursday and one hour prior to the service on Friday at the funeral home.
