Ruth Louise Chronister, age 89, of Chambersburg, PA, passed away on Thursday, June 12, 2014 at the Falling Spring Nursing Home. Born November 24, 1924 in Chambersburg, PA, she was the daughter of the late George F. and Sylvia Thomas Ott.
Mrs. Chronister worked at the former Stanley Company for many years. She went on to work at the former Book and Card Mall and later the Hallmark Store in Chambersburg, where she became the store manager and retired after 15 years. A selfless person, Ruth continued to keep herself busy, volunteering at the Salvation Army until she was 82 years old and being active in her Church, singing in the choir, participating in Bible Study Groups, and Gardening. She was a member of the First Evangelical Lutheran Church in Chambersburg, PA.
Surviving is her loving husband of 70 years, Jay F. Chronister; two children, Jay R. Chronister (wife Avis) of Chambersburg, PA and Linda M. Johnson (husband the late John) of Chambersburg, PA; two grandchildren, Tanya Johnson and Shawn Johnson; four great grandchildren; and one brother, Harry Ott (wife Mary Jane) of Chambersburg, PA. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death a sister, Florence Appel and brother in law, Bill.
Funeral services will be held on Monday, June 16, 2014 at 1 PM in the Chapel of Thomas L. Geisel Funeral Home and Cremation Center, 333 Falling Spring Rd., Chambersburg, PA; where Pastor Charles Kampmeyer will officiate. The family will receive friends on Sunday, June 15, 2014 from 6-8 PM and one hour prior to the service in the funeral home. Interment will follow in Lincoln Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in her name to the Alzheimer’s Association, P.O. Box 96011, Washington, DC 20090.
