Ruth Josephine (Goshorn) Cook, 90, of Fayetteville, PA, passed away Monday, March 31, 2014,
at home in Fayetteville where she resided for 54 years. Born August 22, 1923, in Shade Valley, PA., she was the daughter of the late Wilbert and Hannah Goshorn.
She grew up on a farm in Blairs Mills, PA, graduating from the Nossville High School and
receiving her religious foundation education from Nossville United Methodist Church, where her dad
was the Sunday School superintendent. After graduating high school, she moved to Chambersburg, PA
to work at Letterkenny Army Depot, where she met her future husband. She was one of the many local women who worked at the Depot during World War II. She was a homemaker most of her life, working hard to support her husband and raise her children. As her children got older, she worked part time in several department stores such as Eyerly's, The Bon Ton, and Grants. She enjoyed reading historical novels and she loved reading the Bible. She loved working in the yard, gardening, and her flowers. She was a devoted wife to her husband and mother to her children. In her later years, she especially loved her great-grandchildren Joseph, Kacey, Joel, and Karissa.
She is survived by her children, sons, Stephen J. Cook of Fayetteville, PA and Vaughn P. Cook (Tamy) of Chambersburg, PA and her daughter, Angela B. Martin (Richard) of Fayetteville, PA, 8 grandchildren, 4 great-grandchildren, and two siblings, Hilda Hall of New Cumberland, PA and Galen Goshorn of Greenville, TN. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Paul who died in 2003, two brothers, Gene and George and two sisters, Evelyn Arndt and Mary Booher. She was also preceded in death by her beloved son, Christopher who died at 2 years old.
Funeral services will be held in the Chapel of the Thomas L. Geisel Funeral Home and Cremation Center, 333 Falling Spring Rd., Chambersburg, PA on Friday, April 4, 2014 at 2:30 PM; where Pastor Trisha Brandt will officiate. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service in the funeral home. Interment will follow the service in Mt. Pleasant Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the Mt. Union United Methodist Church, 8082 Lincoln Way East, Fayetteville, PA 17222.
