Ruth A. Hartzok, 94, of Chambersburg, died peacefully Tuesday, April 25, 2017, with family at her side. Born Jan. 12, 1923, in St. Thomas, PA, she was the daughter of the late Paul Tritt and Helen Keefer Aughinbaugh. She was preceded in death by her husband, M. Lee Hartzok.
She graduated from Chambersburg High School in 1940 and was employed for a number of years at a local financial institution after a year of business college. She was a devoted mother and grandmother. She was enthusiastic in her love of life, throughout which she enjoyed horseback riding, camping, knitting, gardening, traveling, and postcard collecting. She volunteered for 30 years with Chambersburg Meals on Wheels and was a tour director for a local AARP chapter. She volunteered for various church programs and community organizations. She was a long time member of King Street United Brethren Church, Chambersburg. She was known for her kindness and quick wit.
She is survived by a sister, Doris Patterson, of Chambersburg; three children, Dr. David Hartzok (wife, Judy), Jolene McGinley (husband, John) and Alanna Hartzok, all of the Chambersburg area. Also surviving are six grandchildren and two great-grandchildren as well as her constant companion, her dog Shiloh. She was preceded in death by three siblings, Paul Aughinbaugh, Carolyn Ausherman, and Janice Snider.
Graveside services will be at the convenience of the family. Arrangements are entrusted to the Thomas L. Geisel Funeral Home and Cremation Center, Chambersburg, PA. Memorial contributions may be made to the Chambersburg Meals on Wheels program, 43 West Washington St., Chambersburg, PA 17201.
