Ruth Hockenberry

Ruth E. Hockenberry, 75, of Willow Hill, PA, passed away Tuesday afternoon, January 31, 2012 in the Chambersburg Hospital. Born February 19, 1936 in Willow Hill, she was a daughter of the late Clair and Dorothy Neil Runk. Ruth attended school in Metal Township and was employed as a presser at the former J. Schoeneman Company in Chambersburg, retiring after 35 years. She always liked helping others and enjoyed playing pinochle, lending advice, and cooking for her family.

She is survived by her husband of 52 years, Fred F. Hockenberry, whom she married March 17, 1959; three children, Nancy Atherton and husband Randy of Chambersburg, Fred J. Hockenberry, Jr. of White Marsh, MD, and Melissa Swanger and husband Ronnie of Doylesburg; five grandchildren, Jody Scofield, Jason North, Phillip McMullen, Elizabeth Swanger, and Troy Sisson; three great-grandchildren, Trinity McMullen and Brandon and Hunter Scofield; and two people who were very special to her, Denny Scofield and Shandi McMullen. She is also survived by four brothers, Robert B. Runk and wife Velma of Chambersburg, Ira Runk of Fannettsburg, Stanley Runk and wife Wilma of Roxbury, and Clair Runk and wife Mary of Fannettsburg; and three sisters, Betty Martin and husband Eldon of Pinlola, Flora Appleby and husband Earnest of Shippensburg, and Doris Cohenour and husband Thomas of Willow Hill. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two brothers, Walter and Guy Runk; and two sisters, Vonnie Neil and Janet Schiller.

Funeral services will be held at 10:00 AM Saturday, February 4, 2012 at the Shady Pine Mennonite Church, Willow Hill, PA with Rev. Marlin A. “Butch” Neil and Pastor Randy Atherton officiating. Interment will follow at Upper Path Valley Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6:00-9:00 PM Friday and one hour prior to the service on Saturday at the church.
