Ruth Hostetter

January 22, 1919 — November 9, 2011

Ruth E. Hostetter, 92, a resident at Magnolias of Chambersburg and formerly of 125 Highland Road, Chambersburg, passed away at 4:20 PM Wednesday, November 9, 2011 in the Chambersburg Hospital. Born January 22, 1919 in Letterkenny Township, Franklin County, she was a daughter of the late Jacob and Effie Alleman Daugherty. Early in her life, Ruth was employed for ten years as a presser at the former Shirt Craft Company and then for seventeen years at the former L’Aiglon in Shippensburg. She retired in 1985 from Scotland School for Veteran’s Children where she was employed as a House Mother for eleven years. She was a member for more than seventy years at King Street United Brethren Church and was a member of the Buds of Promise Sunday School class. For the past two years she attended Chambersburg First Church of God. Ruth volunteered for ten years with Meals on Wheels of Chambersburg and loved to spend time baking and crocheting. Her husband, David L. Hostetter, preceded her in death on February 18, 1974.

She is survived by four children, Bonnie Johns and husband Gary of Greencastle, Wanda Forrester and husband Gerald of Scotland, Kay Yaukey and husband Ordean of Mont Alto, and David A. Hostetter and wife Virginia of Portage; fourteen grandchildren; and fifteen great-grandchildren. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a sister, Alberta Slater and a brother, John A. Daughtery.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 AM Monday, November 14, 2011 at King Street United Brethren Church in Chambersburg. Rev. Paul B. Baker and Rev. Lester F. Stine will officiate. Interment will follow at Norland Cemetery. The family will receive from 6:00-8:00 PM Sunday at Thomas L. Geisel Funeral Home and Cremation Center, 333 Falling Spring Road, Chambersburg and one hour prior to the service on Monday at the church.
