Ruth L. Meyers Hawbaker, 97, of Chambersburg, PA, passed away Sunday afternoon, April 15, 2018 at The Shook Home. Born January 30, 1921 in Guilford Township, she was a daughter of the late Daniel E. and Susan Lesher Stouffer. Mrs. Hawbaker was a 1938 graduate of the former Chambersburg High School. A homemaker most of her life, she also assisted on the family farm. She was an active member of the Chambersburg Church of the Brethren. She had at one time been active with the New Franklin Ruritan and enjoyed crocheting, quilting, and gardening. Her first husband, Lester W. Meyers, preceded her in death on January 29, 1991 and her second husband, Aden L. Hawbaker, preceded her in death on July 28, 1996.
She is survived by her son, Alvin E. Meyers and wife Diana of Chambersburg; two step-sons, Donald H. Hawbaker of Florida and Carl Hawbaker and wife Janet of St. Thomas; two grandchildren, Rodney Meyers and wife Lisa and Beverly Sease and husband Robert, Jr.; two great-grandchildren, Derek Meyers and Brennan Sease; and a number of step-grandchildren and step-great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her sister, Faye Heckman of Chambersburg; and two brothers, Ralph Stouffer of Martinsburg, PA and Paul Stouffer of Nashville, TN. In addition to her parents and spouses, she was preceded in death by two sisters, Doris Witter and Mary Knepper; and six brothers, Arthur, Carl, Luther, John, Charles, and Glenn.
Funeral services will be held at 11:30 AM Friday, April 20, 2018 at the Chambersburg Church of the Brethren, 260 South Fourth Street, Chambersburg, PA 17201. Pastor Joel Nogle will officiate. The family will receive friends from 10:00 AM until services begin at 11:30 AM Friday at the church. Private interment will be in Meyers Cemetery near Welsh Run.
