Ruth Shafer

Ruth L. (Baker) Shafer, 95, of Chambersburg, PA passed away Sunday, January 7, 2024 in SpiriTrust Luther Ridge. She was the daughter of the late Merle and Velva (Faust) Baker.

She was a graduate of Chambersburg High School. Ruth was employed at TB Woods and for the Chambersburg School District before her employment at Letterkenny Army Depot. She retired after 20 years of service. Ruth enjoyed sewing, gardening, boating with her husband, and most of all spending time with her family.

Ruth is survived by two daughters, Kay Luckenbill and husband Gary of Elizabethtown, and Carol Burkholder and husband Dean of Shippensburg; four grandchildren, Amy Fuddy and husband Matthew of Elizabethtown, Erica Roberts and husband Matthew of Elizabethtown, Carrie Stem and husband Maxwell of Carlisle, and Graham Burkholder and wife Nicole of Chambersburg; eight great-grandchildren, Magnolia, Cole, Lily, Elon, Blake, Nora, Caleb, and Michaela; and a number of nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her husband, Seth B. Shafer and five siblings, Elwood Baker, Charles Baker, Margaret Gontz, Grace Wagner, and Helen Kohler.

A memorial service will be held 11:00 AM, Tuesday, January 16, 2024 in the chapel of Thomas L. Geisel Funeral Home and Cremation Center, 333 Falling Spring Road, Chambersburg, PA. Rev. Elizabeth Thorpe will officiate. Friends will be received one hour prior to the service. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Salvation Army, 169 Lincoln Way West, Chambersburg, PA 17201.
