Ruth Williams

Ruth L. Williams, formerly of Chambersburg, PA, passed away peacefully at The Village of Laurel Run on Sunday, June 1, 2014. Born September 23, 1922 in Breezewood, PA, she was a daughter of the late Henry and Charity Layton. She was married to Lloyd K. Williams, Sr., who passed away November 23, 1995. Ruth was employed at the former Heinz Company, Knouse Foods, and at the J. Schoeneman Company. She was a long-time member of St. Paul United Methodist Church and its Willing Workers Sunday School Class. She enjoyed volunteering for her St. Paul family and helping with weekly dinners, special events, and making Easter eggs. More recently, she enjoyed the activities at The Village of Laurel Run, especially Bingo and getting her hair and nails done.

Ruth is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Lloyd and Edna Williams of Chambersburg, PA; daughter Charlotte Shatzer of Edenville, PA; daughter and son-in-law, Linda and Tim Daniel of Orrtanna, PA; granddaughter and husband, Barbara and Randy Hershey of Dillsburg, PA; great granddaughter and husband Chelsea and Kevin Fleer of Lewisberry, PA; grandson and wife, Jason and Alana Daniel of Worchester, MA; great grandson, Blake Daniel of Worchester, MA; sister, Arlene Mearkle of Everett, PA; special niece and husband, Doris and Russell Mellott of Needmore, PA; special nephew and wife, Sonny and Carol Layton of Saxton, PA; and a number of great nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her son-in-law, Kevin Shatzer; her brother, Marshall Layton; and her sisters, Blanche Spade and Pearl Layton.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM Wednesday, June 4, 2014 at St. Paul United Methodist Church, Chambersburg, PA with Rev. Rick Noll officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church. Interment will be at Parklawns Memorial Gardens.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations be sent to St. Paul United Methodist Church, 750 Norland Avenue, Chambersburg, PA 17201; Lutheran Home Care and Hospice, Inc., 2700 Luther Drive, Chambersburg, PA 17202; The Village of Laurel Run Benevolent Fund, 6375 Chambersburg Road, Fayetteville, PA 17222; or to a favorite charity of the donor’s choice.

The Williams family is especially grateful for the loving care given to Ruth over the past 1 ½ years by the staff members of the Personal Care and Skilled Nursing areas of The Village of Laurel Run.
