Samuel H. Patterson, 99, of Chambersburg, passed away Tuesday, February 14, 2023 at The Shook Home. Born August 12, 1923 in Chambersburg, he was a son of the late Benjamin and Stella Owens Patterson. He had attended the Eastern Bible Institute in Springfield, MO. Early in his life Sam worked at the former Fairchild Industries in Hagerstown, MD. He then served with the United States Army Medical Corps during World War II. Following his military service he went to work as a trackman with the Penn Central Railroad which later became Conrail where he continued to work until his retirement in 1985. He was a member of Bethel Assembly of God in Chambersburg. His wife, Margaret J. DeHaven Patterson, whom he married June 12, 1949, preceded him in death on June 25, 2019.
He is survived by two children, Linda Krawczak and husband Nicholas of St. Thomas, PA and Randy Patterson and wife Sue of Lacey, WA; two grandsons, Rusty Fetterhoff, Jr. and wife Amy and Michael Owens and wife Amanda; three great-grandsons, Bradyn Fetterhoff, Jaxson Owens, and Benton Owens; and twin great-granddaughters Abrielle and Emrie Fetterhoff. In addition to his wife and parents, he was preceded in death by four sisters and four brothers.
Funeral services will be held at 1:00 PM Tuesday, February 21, 2023 in the Chapel of Thomas L. Geisel Funeral Home and Cremation Center, 333 Falling Spring Road, Chambersburg, PA. Rev. Garry Kipe will officiate. Interment with military honors by members of the Charles Nitterhouse Post 1599 VFW Honor Guard will follow at Parklawns Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends from Noon – 1:00 PM on Tuesday at the funeral home.
