Samuel S. Small, Jr., 89, formerly of Lower Horse Valley Road, Orrstown, PA, passed away Monday morning, December 1, 2014 at Providence Place, where he resided for the past 3 years. Born October 9, 1925 in Chambersburg, PA, he was a son of the late Samuel S. Small Sr. and Roberta Brake Small. Sam served three tours with the US Navy in the South Pacific during WWII aboard the USS Blenny as a Forward Torpedo man. He later retired from Letterkenny Army Depot after many years of service. An avid outdoorsman, he enjoyed hunting and fishing. His wife, Sarah Wagaman Small, preceded him in death on July 30, 2012.
He is survived by his daughter, Susan Sleighter and husband Dennis of Chambersburg; two sons, Samuel S. Small, III and wife Nancy of Orrstown and Shane H. Small and wife Nancy of Scottsboro, AL; six grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and a brother, James B. Small of Shippensburg. In addition to his wife and parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Bernadine M. Edwards; and a brother, Jack K. Small.
A private graveside service will be held at Lincoln Cemetery with Rev. John Ile and Rev. Thomas Willis officiating.
