Samuel H. Wengert, 95, of Chambersburg, PA passed away Saturday, November 5, 2022 in the Chambersburg Hospital. Born October 14, 1927 in Southampton Township, Franklin County, PA he was the son of the late Norman S. and Florence I. (Hock) Wengert.
He was a dairy farmer for many years and was active in the agriculture community. Samuel then went to work at Menno Haven for 23 years and volunteered for 20 years there. He was also a school bus driver and served on the elections board. He was an active member of Air Hill Brethren in Christ Church serving as Sunday School Superintendent and Deacon. In his later years he became a member of King Street Church. Samuel was also a member of Gideons International. He loved singing with the Air Hill Octet and the Joy Chorale.
He is survived by five children, Donald Wengert (Donna), Lois Gayman (Clifford), Nancy Lundy (Renwick), Carol Stambaugh (Charles), and Curtis Wengert (Sherry); stepdaughter, Deborah Tator (Christopher); twelve grandchildren; four step-grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; and a number of nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his first wife, Mary E. (Musser) Wengert who passed away February 6, 1998; his second wife, Rebetta (Reed) Wengert who passed away May 12, 2004; an infant son, Ray Allen Wengert; step-son, James Chaklos; two sisters, Viola and Ruth Wengert; and a brother, Roy Wengert.
Services will be held 11:00 AM, Friday, November 11, 2022 in the King Street Church, 56 N. 2nd Street, Chambersburg, PA 17201 with Rev. Ron Cook officiating. There will be a viewing from 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM Thursday evening in Thomas L. Geisel Funeral Home, 333 Falling Spring Road, Chambersburg, PA 17202. Burial will be private in Air Hill Cemetery. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service Friday morning in the church.
