On Saturday, April 13, 2024, Sandy K. (Byers) Kaiser, 74, accepted God’s invitation to enter through the gates of Heaven with joy in her heart and peace for her body. Her 20-year-battle with cancer was finally over.
Sandy was born on February 17,1950, to the late Raymond H. Byers and Gloria L. (Custer) Byers. She grew up in the Shepherdstown, WV area, attending Shepherdstown Elementary and Shepherdstown High Schools, and graduated from Shepherd College in 1972 with a degree in English Education. She attributed her interest in English and teaching to her own high school English teachers: J. Grissinger, R. Shaffer, A. Calvin, and G. Hartzell. Her own teaching career took her to Loudoun County, VA (7 y); Jefferson County, WV (1 y); and to the Waynesboro Area School District, PA (25 y). She retired in 2005.
Sandy is survived by her husband, Clifford G. Kaiser, whom she met on an arranged blind date for New Years Eve 1971. They married on August 20, 1977. A memorable time in their married lives together was a month-long driving/camping adventure to Alaska to celebrate their 25th wedding anniversary. They were best friends, as well as partners.
Additional survivors are daughters: Amanda(Chuck), Fayetteville and Emily, York Springs; brother, Mike H. Byers (Leslie) in TN.; grandchildren Andrea & Andrew in York Springs, and Ashley & Audrey in Kentucky; Siblings-in-law: Richard Kaiser (Linda), Trudy Stoner(John), Joyce Rowe(Rodney), Luann Custer (Bill); and a very special aunt, Kate Berkstresser, (Fulton County, PA).
Additionally, a number of cousins in WV, MD, and PA as well as nieces & nephews: Ronnie, Marc, Diana, Michelle, Becky, Kathy, Rick, Ben, Rich, Wesley, Mary, Matthew, Jonathan; and many friends acquired over years of teaching together; high school friends aka “The Golden Girls”; the card ladies and friends from her church family at New Guilford BIC Church in Fayetteville.
Sandy’s interests over the years included a variety of crafts of many kinds, photography, car rides, puzzles, collecting Santa Clauses, working w/MOPS group at church, and caring for her dear grandchildren as they grew up. She enjoyed being around others and loved to laugh and kid around…puns were her specialty.
Visitation with the family will be held on Thursday, April 18, 2024, from 7 – 9 PM and on Friday, April 19, 2024, from 10 AM – 12 PM at the Thomas Geisel Funeral Home, 333 Falling Spring Road, Chambersburg, PA 17202.
A memorial service will be held on Friday, April 19, 2024, at 1 PM at the New Guilford BIC Church, 1575 Mont Alto Road, Chambersburg, PA 17202
Interment will be at the New Guilford BIC church cemetery at the intersection of Mont Alto Road and Fetterhoff Chapel Road in Duffield, PA on Friday, April 19, 2024, at 2 PM.

The family wishes to express its gratitude and appreciation to the many medical personnel members who assisted Sandy over the years, including, but not limited to: Wellspan and Hershey Oncology & Hematology departments, Wellspan physical therapy and Wound care centers, home visiting nurses, Lymphedema specialists, Breastcare specialists, Palliative care center, Phlebotomists, and the many, many nurses who assisted her over the years. Sandy always expressed how blessed she felt to be under the watchful care of these compassionate, knowledgeable and competent personnel.
