Sandra M. (Guerrieri) Kopenhaver, age 81, of Fayetteville, PA, died Sunday, November 11, 2018, at her home. Born December 10, 1936, in Nyack, New York, she was the daughter of the late Olga and Anthony Guerrieri. For 60 years, Sandy enjoyed living in Nyack with friends and family nearby. After graduating from Nyack High School in 1954, she was employed at Lederle Labs. After starting a family, Sandy worked nights at Nyack Hospital and then transitioned into being the accountant at Petersen’s Boatyard for over 25 years.
After retiring in 1996, Sandy and her husband (and high school sweetheart) Bob moved to Fayetteville, PA to enjoy their retirement years. During these 20+ years, she enjoyed traveling, learning to play golf, (especially with the Penn National Ladies nine-hole league), water aerobics, playing cards, traveling with the F&M Bank Go Club, “crafty ladies”, Red Hat Ladies, dancing, any New York sports team game, and much more. She also gave back to the community in numerous capacities, including volunteering at the Waynesboro Hospital, Saint Andrew Catholic Church, The Capitol Theatre in Chambersburg, and in any other way she could. And no matter where she was, Sandy always had a smile on her face, something baking in the oven, and a “zip” in her step.
She is survived by her loving husband of 62 years Bob; three children, Noreen Gniewek (Ray), Arlington, VA, Robert Kopenhaver (Diane), Briarcliff Manor NY, and Janet Kopenhaver, Arlington VA; five grandchildren, Brett D’Amore (Tom), Jared Gniewek (Lizzie), Edmond Gniewek (Amy), Kevin Foley (Andrea), and Alexander Kopenhaver; four great-grandchildren; her twin sister Lorraine McLeod (David) and numerous nieces and nephews.
A Memorial Mass will be offered on Saturday, November 17, 2018, at 10:00 am at the Corpus Christi Catholic Church, 320 Philadelphia Ave. Chambersburg, PA where Rev. Fr. Richard Lyons will celebrate. The Family will receive friends on Friday, November 16, 2018, from 6:00 pm to 9:00 pm at the Thomas L. Geisel Funeral Home and Cremation Center on 333 Falling Spring Road in Chambersburg, PA.
