Surrounded by her loving family, Sara Dunlap, 81, passed peacefully on February 11, 2015. Sara Grace Sandoe was born in Chambersburg, PA on September 24, 1933 to Irene (nee Roth) and J. Frank Sandoe. She joined sister, Arlene, and would be followed by sister, Phyllis. She graduated from Chambersburg High School in 1951. Upon graduation, she headed to Philadelphia to earn her RN from Pennsylvania Hospital School of Nursing in 1954 and a BS in Nursing from University of Pennsylvania in 1959.
She had the dress and on September 17, 1960 married the man, William N. Dunlap, Jr. The marriage endured for 45 years.
Sara and Bill moved the family – occasionally including a dog but always a cat – six times, eventually living in five states before settling in Morgan Hill, CA. She was a leader in Philanthropic Education Organization (P.E.O., Chapter BA in Lancaster, PA and CG in Gilroy, CA), the National Association of Women in Chambers of Commerce, American Association of University Women, and the Red Hat Society. Hobbies included making beaded flower arrangements, reading, gourmet food and traveling. After retiring, Sara set off to see the world, visiting Singapore, Korea, Egypt, Israel, Finland, Greece, Italy, Germany and Russia usually in the company of her daughter, Sue.
Sara was a collector. Due to declining health, it took many hands to move her and her cat, Romeo, to New York to live with Sue on the grounds of the US Merchant Marine Academy. Although she missed her California community, Sara was a partriot who loved her country and was, therefore, proud to live at one of the nation’s premier service acadamies.
Sara is preceded in death by her husband, Bill, and her sister, Phyllis Bowman. She is survived by her sister, Arlene Flohr (Carl), daughters, Sue Dunlap and Julie Dunlap (Joe Pritting), son, Bill Dunlap (The Awesome Diane), grandchildren Nick Dunlap, Lauren Pritting and Matt Pritting, numerous beloved nieces and nephews, and Romeo.
