Sara A. Keyser McGowan, age 74, of Chambersburg, widow of Harry D. “Mac” McGowan, passed away on Saturday, October 8, 2011 in the Chambersburg Hospital. Born on November 14, 1936 in McConnellsburg, PA, she was a daughter of the late Herman and Elizabeth Shives Keyser.
Sara worked in food service for most of her adult life, retiring from Wilson College. She was a member of the Burt J. Asper American Legion Post 46 and its 40 et 8 club, the Marine Corps League, Hume McNeil Byers AmVets Post 224, and the Charles Nitterhouse VFW Post 1599, all in Chambersburg. Some of her interests included reading and playing bingo.
She is survived by three children, Rodney L. (and wife, Peggy) Stoner, Michael R. (and wife, Cindy) Stoner, and Beverly (and husband, Frank) Neidigh, all of Chambersburg; one stepson, Charles H. (and wife, Edna) McGowan of Bakersfield, CA; five grandchildren; three great grandchildren; and a number of nieces and nephews. Aside from her husband, she was preceded in death by four sisters, Dorcas Brake, Erma Burkholder, Vada Pine, and Martha Hamilton, and two brothers, Robert and Homer Keyser.
Funeral Services will be held at 11:30 AM on Wednesday, October 12, 2011 in the Chapel of Thomas L. Geisel Funeral Home, Inc. 333 Falling Spring Road, Chambersburg, with Rev. Arthur Brown officiating. Interment will follow in Parklawns Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 7-9 PM on Tuesday and one hour prior to the service on Wednesday.
