Sara Underkoffler

Sara Jayne (Kegerreis) Underkoffler, 86, of Chambersburg, PA, passed away peacefully on Sunday morning, June 19, 2022 at her home surrounded by her family. Born July 6, 1935 in Pine Grove, Schuylkill County, PA, she was a daughter of the late Gerald Manning Kegerreis and Ruth Marie Keebaugh Kegerreis. Mrs. Underkoffler graduated from the Pine Grove High School in 1953 along with her lifelong best friends Jean Hoffman and Nancy Crognale, whom she befriended in grade school. She had been employed for many years at the former J.C. Penney in Chambersburg where she worked as a Retail Sales Associate and Floor Manager prior to her retirement. Mrs. Underkoffler was of the Protestant faith and early in her life was affiliated with the Protestant Reformed Church in Pine Grove. She liked building puzzles, collecting antiques, and along with her husband enjoyed traveling and attending Gospel sings.

She is survived by her husband, John Gordon Underkoffler, whom she married October 24, 1953; two sons, Scott Michael and wife Ann Louise (Howe) Underkoffler and Tracy D. and wife Kwang Min “Mimi” (Pak) Underkoffler, all of Chambersburg; four grandchildren, Adam Underkoffler, his wife Beth, and their daughters Raleigh and Adalyn, Keri (Underkoffler) Layden, her husband Rick, and their children Ava and Piper, Kyle Underkoffler, his wife Kayla, and their daughter Minta, and Karen (Underkoffler) Morrison, her husband Chris, and their children Katrina and Laila. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two sisters, Geraldine Catherine (Kegerreis) Weand and Lois Louise (Kegerreis) Stambaugh, as well as two brothers, Arthur Eugene Kegerreis, Sr. and James Roy Kegerreis.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM Tuesday, June 28, 2022 in the Chapel of Thomas L. Geisel Funeral Home and Cremation Center, 333 Falling Spring Road, Chambersburg, PA. Rev. Carl McKee and Minister Garnet Myers will officiate. Interment will follow at Parklawns Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends from 10:00 – 11:00 AM on Tuesday at the funeral home. Following the cemetery committal service a memorial reception will be held at Burt J. Asper Post 46 American Legion, 755 Philadelphia Avenue, Chambersburg, PA.
