Sharon Rae Wingerd, 72, of Orrtanna, PA passed away Saturday, August 5, 2023 in Holy Spirit Hospital, Camp Hill, PA. Born October 9, 1950 in Chambersburg, PA she was the daughter of the late Harold E. “Sarge” and Peggy L. (Fahnestock) Byers.
She attended Chambersburg Area Schools and obtained her GED in 1979. Sharon was employed by the Stanley Company for 23 years; Gee Bees/Value City Department Store for 2 years; Walmart for 14 years; and as a teacher’s aide for the Chambersburg Area School District.
Sharon was a member of The Church Jesus Christ of the Latter-day Saints Chambersburg where she was a primary children’s teacher and a 2nd Counselor of the Relief Society. She enjoyed anything Alan Jackson, reading, spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, and watching WWE wrestling with her husband. She also loved holiday gatherings and her four legged friends, Mollie, Popeye, Furbie, BooBoo, Sis, and Sissy. Sharon’s accomplishment in life was being a fantastic mother and wife.
She is survived by her husband of 56 years, Ronald B. Wingerd, Sr. who she married July 10, 1967; two children, Ronald B. Wingerd, Jr. and his wife Jody and Michelle E. Forbes and her husband Jonathan; grandchildren, Katelyn E. Wingerd (Kyle May), Benjamin T. Wingerd, Jalena L. Piper (Bret), Annabella M. Moore (James L. Smith, Sr.), Jacob I. Petit, Irene J. Forbes, Emma R. Forbes, and Lillie C. Forbes; great-grandchildren, Layne A. Moore, Weston L. Smith, James L. Smith, Jr., Bentley A. Smith, and Audrey J. Smith.
In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her brother, Roger Byers and a grandson, Tucker L. Forbes.
Services will be held 10:00 AM, Friday August 11, 2023 in the Chapel of the Thomas L. Geisel Funeral Home, 333 Falling Spring Road, Chambersburg, PA. Burial will follow in Parklawns Memorial Gardens, Chambersburg.
The family will receive friends from 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM Thursday evening in the funeral home as well as one hour prior to the service Friday morning in the funeral home.
