Sherryl Jones

July 17, 1951 — February 7, 2017

Sherryl S. Jones, 65, of Scotland, PA, passed away unexpectedly on Tuesday, February 7, 2017 at the Chambersburg Hospital. Born July 17, 1951 in Chambersburg, she was a daughter of the late C. Wallace and Marion Michaels McGehee. Sherryl was a 1969 graduate of the Chambersburg Area Senior High School and went on to earn a Bachelor’s degree from Morehead State University in Kentucky and a Master’s degree from Shippensburg University. She taught school for many years at the former Scotland School for Veteran’s Children, retiring in 2009. She was a mentor to many students throughout her career and also enjoyed coaching volleyball, basketball, and cheerleading at the school. She was an American Red Cross swimming instructor and lifeguard training instructor. She and her husband were proud supporters of Penn State University and the Blue Band. Sherryl was an active member of St. Luke Lutheran Church where she sang with the church choir and served on the Evangelism Committee as well as numerous other committees.

She is survived by her husband, Jon L. Jones, whom she married May 12, 1974; son, Matthew J. Jones and daughter-in-law Laura K. Jones; granddaughter Ella Marilyn Jones; sister Linda M. Miller; sister-in-law and brother-in-law Linda and Michael Darland; and cousins Deane and Sandy McGehee and their family. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her infant daughter, Marilyn Marie Jones; her in-laws Richard and Mona Jones; and her brother-in-law, Gil Miller. She will also be especially missed by her granddaughter, Ella, who called her Grammy, and sadly missed by her dogs, Abbey, Lewis, and Lacey.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 AM Saturday, February 11, 2017 at St. Luke Lutheran Church, Chambersburg, PA. Rev. Christopher Frye will officiate. Interment will follow at Parklawns Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends from 8:30 – 10:30 AM Saturday at the church.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Sherry’s memory may be made to St. Luke Lutheran Church, 2695 Luther Drive, Chambersburg, PA 17202.
