Sherwood Polk

November 22, 1933 — February 3, 2012

Sherwood M. Polk, 78, of Chambersburg, passed away after losing the battle to Parkinson's Disease on Friday, February 3, 2012 at Shippensburg Health Care Center, where he had been a resident since June of 2010.
He was the middle child of McKean and Gladys Polk of Shippensburg, graduating from Shippensburg High School in class of 1951. After graduation he served in the US Army with his last post in El Paso TX. He then began a 30 year career with IBM Corporation, eventually retiring back to the area in 1986. He was a life member of the Amvets Post #224 and American Legion Post #46, both in Chambersburg. Sherwood is survived by his wife of 55 years, May (Fleagle) Polk; a son McKean H. (fiance KC) of Minneapolis MN; daughter, Avis Graham (husband Kurt) of Fayetteville, one brother and sister-in-law, Jack and Beverly Polk of Newville; and one grandson, Jarvas Polk, currently serving in Iraq; as well as several nieces and a nephew.
He was preceded in death by his parents and one sister, Joanne Etter of St. Thomas.
A memorial service will be held at 1:00 PM on Wednesday, February 8, in the Chapel of Thomas L. Geisel Funeral Home and Cremation Center 333 Falling Spring Road Chambersburg, with Pastor Neil Suders of Brandts Church of the Brethern officiating. Friends are encouraged to visit one hour prior to the service. In lieu of flowers the family requests donations to be made in Sherwood's honor to Oddesey Hospice, 4660 Trindle Road #204, Camp Hill, PA 17011-5608.
