Shirley A. Byers

Shirley A. Byers, 91, of Chambersburg, passed away on Sunday, June 9, 2024 at Mercy House of Chambersburg. Born December 21, 1932 in Chambersburg, she was the daughter of the late Charles W. and Edna Diehl Knepper.

Shirley was a 1950 graduate of the former Chambersburg High School. She dedicated most of her life to making a home for her family. She was a member of New Guilford Brethren In Christ Church and enjoyed crocheting, reading, drawing and baking for her family.

She is survived by her husband of 73 years, H. Preston Byers, whom she married on January 19, 1951; three sons, Preston Byers (Tina) of Harrisburg, Keith Byers (Charette) of Waynesboro, and Troy Byers (Karen Kennerly) of Alexandria, VA; and four grandchildren, Travis Byers, Megan Byers, Jonathan Byers (Diana), and Heidi Carr (Alec). Aside from her parents, Shirley was preceded in death by two children, Douglas Byers and Cynthia Kipe; and two brothers, Charles and Carl Knepper.

The family will receive friends from 5:00 – 6:00 PM on Wednesday, June 12, 2024 at the Thomas L. Geisel Funeral Home, 333 Falling Spring Road, Chambersburg, PA. Funeral services will follow at 6:00 PM where Rev. Lawton Jacobs will officiate.
