Shirley Jones

Shirley C. Jones, 85, of Ft. Loudon, PA, passed away peacefully on Saturday afternoon, April 1, 2023 at Brookview at Menno Haven. Born April 17, 1937 in Metal Township, Franklin County, PA, she was a daughter of the late George W. and Cora Hockenberry Smith. Shirley was a 1956 graduate of the Fannett-Metal High School. She worked at home raising her family and caring for other children until the mid-1980s and then was employed as a bank teller for many years prior to her retirement. She was an active member of Carrick United Methodist Church where she enjoyed singing with the choir and served as Treasurer for many years. She was a member of the Metal Township Fire and Ambulance Company and enjoyed baking and being a blessing to others. Her husband, Joseph L. Jones, whom she married April 16, 1958, preceded her in death on July 6, 1986.
She is survived by four children, Douglas L. Jones of Marion, Ronald J. Jones of Ft. Loudon, Michael A. Jones and wife Eloise of Ft. Loudon, and Donna Black and husband Kriss of Fannettsburg; four grandchildren, Dustin Jones and wife Sarah, Michael Jones and wife Laura, Eric Jones and wife Amanda, and Janelle Berkstresser and husband Tyson; eleven great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Patricia Jones of Chambersburg and Judy Clayton and husband Arthur of Amberson. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her brother, Robert Smith; and two grandsons, Cory Jones and Joseph Tyler Jones.

A service to celebrate Shirley’s life will be held at 3:00 PM Saturday, April 8, 2023 at Carrick United Methodist Church with Rev. Phil Foster and Rev. Darwin Goshorn officiating. Interment will follow in the adjoining church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 2:00-3:00 PM on Saturday at the church.
