Soonhi Lee

November 28, 1914 — February 2, 2017

Soonhi Won Lee, age 102, a resident of Quincy Village, Quincy, PA, passed away on Thursday, February 2, 2017. Born November 28, 1914, in Korea, she was the daughter of the late Yong Han Won.
Mrs. Lee was a 1932 graduate of Ewha Women’s High School and a 1937 graduate of Ewha Women’s University, majoring in English Literature and 1 of a graduating class of 6. Mrs. Lee dedicated 42 years, as a teacher, counselor, and vice principal throughout South Korea educating thousands of students, primarily young women, many of whom became leaders in Korea and the United States, retiring in 1980 and immigrating to the U.S. During her educational career, she was awarded the 1960 Education Committee Award of Seoul, South Korea, 1960 Nokjo Green Medal of Korea, from the President of S. Korea, Seung Man Lee; 1980 National Dongbaekjang Medal, from the President of S. Korea, Kyu Ha Choi. She was awarded plaque of appreciation from the Alumni Association & Parents Association, Jung Won Girls in 1980. A women of deep Christian faith, Mrs. Lee also served the church in many capacities, 1968 Elder of Sungsan Methodist Church, Seoul, Korea; 1981 Elder of Cincinnati Koran Methodist Church, Cincinnati, OH; 1984 Designated Elder of Frederick Koran Baptist Church, Frederick, MD; and 1988 Steering Committee Member of Faith United Methodist Church, Waynesboro, PA. She was also recognized for service in 1985 from the Korean Methodist Church. She was the author of the book, "Philosophy of Bean Sprouters" chronicling lessons learned from her life in education and church ministry.
Surviving are two children, Sang You Choi (husband Byung Jin Choi) of Waynesboro, PA and Sang Hwa Lee (husband Kumsoo Park) of Seoul, South Korea; ten grandchildren; and ten great- grandchildren. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Jeong Lee and three children.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, February 4, 2017, at 2:30 PM in the Bryson Room at Quincy Nursing Home; where Chaplain Justin Isbister will officiate. The family will receive friends from 1 :00 PM until service time. Interment will follow the service in Harbaugh Church Cemetery.
