Stanley E. Sargent, age 84, of Waynesboro, PA, passed away on Wednesday morning, February 18, 2015 at Falling Spring Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. Born August 14, 1930 in Surrey England, he was the son of the late Ernest and Phoebe Kelley Sargent.
Stanley and his family emigrated from England to Canada in 1957 and then from Canada to the United States in 1958 where they settled in Waynesboro. Stanley was educated in mechanical engineering in England and then earned his P.E. in the U.S. He worked at Landis Tool Co. for twenty years then started his own engineering firm called Sargent Engineering Services, where he worked until his retirement in 1995. Stanley was a member of the Presbyterian Church of Waynesboro and the Waynesboro Country Club. He enjoyed golf, playing bridge, ballroom dancing, and spending time with his family.
Stanley is survived by his wife of 63 years, Joyce Morstead Sargent, whom he married on August 9, 1951; two children, Rebecca Pearce (husband James) of Waynesboro, and Stephen Sargent (wife Susan) of Gibsonia, PA; and five grandchildren, John Pearce and Everett, Spencer, Lydia and Vivienne Sargent.
A memorial service to honor Stanley’s life will be held at 10:00 AM on Saturday, February 21, 2015 at the Presbyterian Church of Waynesboro, 105 East Main St. Waynesboro, PA 17268. Rev. Christine Callaway will officiate. The family will receive friends from 9:30 – 10 AM on Saturday at the church. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to a charity of one’s choice.
