Susan Martz

May 9, 1954 — March 18, 2013

Susan J. Martz (58) of Chambersburg, PA passed away unexpectedly on the evening of Monday, March 18, 2013 at the Penn State Hershey Medical Center. Born May 9, 1954 in Schenectady, NY, she was the daughter of the late Donald M. and Eileen G. Cook (ne̒e McFadden).
As a compassionate and selfless person, Susan thrived on caring for others. Her greatest passion and desire in life was to be a loving mother to her three children. She also took much joy in being a loyal friend and dedicated nurse. Whether family, friend, patient, or complete stranger, Susan was always eager to lend an ear or helping hand.
Susan graduated from Maria College in Albany, NY in 1977 and began her career at St. Margaret’s Hospital in Albany to care for the neediest of children. This was followed by a rewarding career in Oncology Nursing. Following her first bout with cancer she returned to perioperative nursing at Summit Surgical Center, which she found very fulfilling. A compassionate and selfless person, Susan volunteered often and in many capacities with various organizations. She most recently had planned to volunteer at Cap-Mak-A-Dream in Missoula, MT to help children with cancer.
Susan enjoyed traveling with her husband and family. She had a talent for crafting and was an enthusiastic supporter of her favorite soccer team, FC Barcelona. She was always available to those that needed her, providing comfort and laughter. Her quick smile and sense of humor will be missed by all.
Surviving is her husband of 34 years, Wendell D. Martz, Jr., whom she married June 10, 1978; her children, Nathan Brandt Martz of Chambersburg, PA; Ryan Matthew Martz of Arlington, VA; and Sara Nicole Martz of Chambersburg, PA; two siblings, Douglas Cook of Bardwell, KY and Bruce Cook of Buffalo, NY. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a brother, Donald Cook, Jr.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, March 23, 2013 at 10 AM in the Chapel of Thomas L. Geisel Funeral Home and Cremation Center, 333 Falling Spring Rd., Chambersburg, PA; where Pastor Wayne A. Good will officiate. The family will receive friends on Friday, March 22 from 6:00 until 9:00 PM and one hour prior to the service on Saturday in the funeral home. Interment will be private.
